AP Microeconomics Syllabus

Course Description

This course is designed to give students a thorough understanding of the principles of economics that apply to the function of individual decision-makers, both consumers and producers, within larger economic systems. It places primary emphasis on the nature and function of product markets. It also examines factor markets and the role of government in promoting greater efficiency and equity in the economy. Solid math and writing skills, along with a willingness to devote considerable time to homework and study, are necessary to succeed. Emphasis is placed on critical and evaluative thinking skills. 

This is a 1 semester course consisting of 6 units.  Upon successful completion students will receive 0.5 credit towards high school graduation.


This is a senior level course. Students should have complete American History and Algebra 2.

  • Theory of the Firm: Production – Costs & Revenue and Four Market Models
  • Resource Markets
  • Market Failure and the Role of Government
  • Review of Microeconomics & Simulated AP Micro Final Exam

Methods of Evaluation

Students will demonstrate mastery through the following formative and summative assessments:

  • 40%       Assignments
  • 10%           Participation (Discussion Posts, Synchronous Sessions)
  • 10%           Quizzes
  • 25%           Final Exam
  • 15%           Unit Tests
